Wow, what a year it has been! Vintage 2016 has been an awesome year for me, trying new and exciting wines, visiting Tasmania for their sensational “Effervescence Tasmania” Sparkling wine festival (proof that Tasmania produces world-class sparkling wines at a fraction of the cost of Champagne, as well as some brilliant cool-climate wines).   I also visited the beautiful Rueda region in Spain, meeting the loveliest of people there and tasting superb, classy white wines. EFFERVESCENT TASMANIA - PART 2

Thanks to Wine Tasmania and WBM Magazine, I spent three sensational days in Tasmania in early November tasting wines at the “Effervescence Tasmania” event – mainly their superb Sparkling wines, but also some cracker cool-climate wines as well. There are 15 Sparkling winemakers in Tassie, all of whom use the “methode tradicionale” to make their Sparkling wines. That is, there are no “gassed-up-with-CO2” sparkling wines on the island, unlike on the mainland where there are plenty of them. As described in my Blog a couple of weeks ago, the event kicked off with an amazing Asian dinner during which we tasted five premium Champagnes alongside five top Tasmanian Sparkling wines.
