The Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy

The Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy is considered the most prestigious wine award in Australia. It is awarded annually to the producer of the best one-year-old dry red wine in the Royal Melbourne Wine Show.

The Trophy is a memorial to the late Jimmy Watson – the proprietor of the Wine Bar in Lygon Street, Carlton, Victoria that is still trading today under his name.

In 2002, Dan Traucki, Director of Wine Assist, was the initiator, of the biggest tasting of Jimmy Watson Trophy winning wines ever conducted. Most of these wines were contributed from Dan's private wine cellar - See the article below for further details.
